Former Hacker Observed with DOJ Officials During Election Monitoring

David Levin, a lawyer previously convicted for hacking election websites, was seen with Justice Department attorney William F. Mohrman outside a polling place in Minneapolis during the monitoring of Minnesota's primary. Levin had been arrested in 2016 for illegally accessing government election websites in Florida, where he extracted usernames and passwords from the Lee County Supervisor of Elections website. He initially faced three felony charges but pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors, serving 20 days in jail and receiving two years of probation. Levin later described his actions as a 'silly political stunt' aimed at exposing security weaknesses. He has since become an attorney and gained an online following as a commentator. Evidence suggests he has joined the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, although the department has not confirmed his employment or role in the election monitoring.
