Oklahoma Secretary of State Benjamin Lepak Arrested on Public Intoxication Charges

Oklahoma Secretary of State Benjamin Lepak was arrested on Friday night in Edmond, Oklahoma, on suspicion of public intoxication. Police responded to a report at approximately 10:45 p.m. regarding a man appearing intoxicated in public. Officers found Lepak near a McDonald's drive-thru and confirmed that the vehicle in the parking lot belonged to him. According to an arrest affidavit, Lepak exhibited slurred speech and the odor of alcohol, and he struggled to produce his identification. During questioning, Lepak stated he had attended a gathering at a church earlier that evening and acknowledged consuming beer, but claimed he had less than one. The police report noted that Lepak provided contradictory statements about how he arrived at the location. He was ultimately arrested for public intoxication. A spokesperson for Lepak stated that he was waiting for dinner and mentioned that no breathalyzer test was administered. Following the incident, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond called for Governor Kevin Stitt to dismiss Lepak, citing concerns about his conduct and previous incidents involving Lepak. Stitt appointed Lepak as Secretary of State in October 2025.
