Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced charges against 14 individuals related to a cocaine trafficking operation involving primarily college students and two fraternities at Penn State University. Thirteen of the defendants were students at the university during the alleged activities in 2023 and 2024, while the 14th defendant, the father of a student, faces charges of tampering with evidence and hindering the investigation.
Investigators allege that two senior fraternity members, Agostino Abbatiello and Thomas Robinson, were the main suppliers, making trips to Philadelphia and New York for cocaine, which was cut and packaged at the Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi fraternity houses for distribution to students. Abbatiello, Robinson, along with Mohammed Hurabi and Lars Zeepvat, are charged with felony corrupt organizations, conspiracy, and related offenses. A fifth defendant, Robert Zanolla, faces felony conspiracy charges and other related misdemeanors. Eight other defendants face misdemeanor charges for possession and paraphernalia.
Attorney General Sunday described the operation as a coordinated drug-trafficking crew involving fraternity members and pledges, with some pledges allegedly being indoctrinated through the cutting and packaging of cocaine. Thomas Robinson's father, Paul Robinson, is charged with felony tampering and hindering apprehension for allegedly concealing evidence related to the investigation.
Penn State University confirmed the criminal allegations and announced that Delta Upsilon is under interim suspension while the Office of Student Accountability investigates. Sigma Chi is not recognized by the university and operates independently. Andrea Dowhower, vice president for student affairs, expressed horror at the allegations and stated that the university would cooperate with law enforcement.
Justin Kirk, Executive Director of Delta Upsilon International Fraternity, stated that individuals associated with the chapter have been expelled, suspended, or resigned, and the fraternity will continue to work with the university during the investigation.
